(ABOUT US)

Dharki is a brand deeply rooted in India’s handloom tradition, founded by Brijesh Gupta. The journey began in 1965, when his father established the business in Varanasi, a city renowned for its weaving heritage. While Brijesh initially pursued a career in chartered accountancy, his profound connection to the craft led him to return to Varanasi in 2000 to continue his family’s legacy

A pivotal moment in Brijesh’s journey was his rigorous training under a Naksheband—a skilled craftsman responsible for creating the intricate patterns that define Banarasi weaving. For over three and a half years, Brijesh spent every night till morning learning the nuances of the craft directly from the Naksheband. Through this hands-on training, he gained in-depth knowledge of Tani preparation, reed setting, Karwa weaving, motif creation (boota), and the intricate techniques of weaving Syracuse patterns. This practical wisdom, passed down through generations, became the backbone of his expertise and the essence of Dharki.

From these roots, Dharki has flourished, now overseeing over 700 handlooms across Varanasi, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal. The brand seamlessly integrates traditional weaving techniques with contemporary aesthetics, ensuring that each creation is a testament to both heritage and innovation
